Friday Wrap-Up: What's On Our Radar

UPDATE: The watch below, worn by Cam, is a WWII-era Russian piece by Vostok. He found it for $30 on Etsy. Sadly, it has been lost...though he notes it didn't keep very good time. YOLO.

Around the interwebs:
  • A peep at the new  Ralph Lauren Vintage online shop. (Get Kempt)
  • If you needed another reason to be "that guy" at a party, grab a Das Horn drinking chalace. (KickStarter)
  • The Hazards of Growing Up Painlessly: Ashlyn Blocker, 13, feels no pain. (NYTimes)
  • Susie and Carrie from Imogene + Willie on friendship and their new favorite women's fit. (Imogene + Willie)
  • We can't stop thinking about the new Scrabble Typography Edition. (GQ)
Around Chicago this weekend:
  • If you're up for it, trek to the burbs for the Red Wing Heritage Trunk Show at Nordstrom this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Apartment Number 9 brings its Bucktown digs to the Gold Coast. (Thrillist)

Friday Wrap-Up: Gary Cooper and Missouri's True/False Film Festival

Here's some general miscellany and packaged goods we thought you should know about:

On Gary Cooper:
  • "Believe me, he was the best looking son of a bitch that ever lived." If there's one thing we love, it's the impossible style of movies stars from the middle of the 20th century. And if those words (Bill Blass's, by the way) doesn't describe Gary Cooper, we don't know what does. To see the rest of the quote, check out Cary Randolph Fuller's feature on Cooper, which appeared on the cover of Ralph Lauren Magazine's spring issue.
On lying:
  • If you don't know about the True/False Film Festival, you should. I'm almost not sure how to even describe it, but it's the best documentary film festival in the world, and it's here in the Midwest. If you think sitting in a dark room with hundreds of other people for 72+ hours doesn't sound like fun, you're wrong. The entire town comes alive, and there are secret parties and mind-blowing new ways of looking at the world. Missouri? Who would have thought? We'll have full coverage in a few weeks.
  • It's happening March 1–4 in Columbia, Mo. Unless you act, like, now, you may already be out of time.
On sale:
On hard-ons:
  • Our thrifting find of the week: topical Chicago Cubs humor. Wrigleyville? Sounds about right.

midweSTYLE: Aztec RL

Cam flew off to London today, but he managed to squeeze in a photoshoot in the Kansas City River Market with our main man, Jarred. Layer up, friends. It's finally getting colder in the Midwest.

Styling suggestions:
  • If you've got a rather bold, loud or obnoxious sweater, tame it with a (mostly) solid vest.
  • If you're considering buying a bold, loud or obnoxious sweater, try it. It'll probably turn into one of favorites.
  • See also: Jeff's recent sweater purchases of zebra, tribal and roommate's poncho.

On Cam: Vintage Ralph Lauren aztec sweater from eBay; blue button-down oxford from J.Crew; thrifted down vest (simliar to Patagonia's sling shot vest); leather hoofpick belt (similar via Valet); slim-straight selvedge denim by Wings + Horns; leather Red Wing boots.
